Desert Rat's new boat.

"The Compass is a nice boat, the second one I've owned. The first was 50 years ago. Having fun relearning how to sail it."

Nice boat for the money

"Pros: Pretty simple install, especially if you have put together models before. Nice shape and fun to sail. Looks overall very cool on the water. Cons: all the decals were wrinkled, rudder would stick due to the tight fit in the rubber grommets. Added a little silicone spray on the rubber and it’s super slick now and rudder works flawless. My remote doesn’t have a on/off switch so to turn it off I have to take out a battery which is annoying. I added some more stickers to make it more personalized but truly is relaxing and fun to sail."

Great boat

"I have sailed RC boats in the past but never owned one. This took me about 4 hours to complete assembly. Most of it was pre rigged and the instructions were fairly good. Once I got it together, we hit the water. It was so much fun. Everything functioned well and the boat sailed perfectly. I am very pleased."

A great boat

"Directions should be more clear"

5 Stars is for the Quality of the Sailboat ONLY ...

"- The Quality of the Sailboat itself is 5 Stars - however be forewarned - the instructions are down right awful & when I mean awful - unless you've built other sailboats - the instructions are absolutely junk. The rigging instructions do not make ANY sense ... (all the bitty stings - aka - rigging) are kinda / sorta pre-done - but - the instructions are written as if YOU need to create the rigging - which would be a absolute nightmare if you've never done it. I found a couple of YouTube videos - one which was kinda/sorta useful - but - the fellow then admits about 40mins in - "this is not a "how-to"" video - cause he does walk through the instructions - but - doesn't explain what HE did to sort out this mess which the instructions are - then flipped to another video which was another kinda sorta walk through - but - the son/dad added a running commentary asto what they did @ certain steps in the instructions. Thus - the MAJOUR downfall is NOT the quality of either the electronics of the sailboat - or - the over all quality of the sailboat build quality - it's the instructions & what's more it's REALLY frustrating trying to find the website of the manufacture to see if they provide a walk through - which I wasn't able to find ... Soooooo ya ... the quality of the sailboat - Great - Instructions - awful ..."

Love the boat…took a while to get on the water.

"Wonderful boat, but took some work to get her in water. My wife purchased through Amazon and I received as a gift at the end of August. Assembly was straightforward (though instructions are sparse, particularly sail rigging). There was a manufacturing defect with the rudder post, and when I contacted product support with description and pictures they sent a replacement rudder…from China. Since it would arrive later than the Amazon return date, and because I could not test the boat for other problems without the rudder, I ordered a return/replacement from Amazon. On receipt the replacement boat was found to have the same defect! A week or two later I received the replacement part from the manufacturer and it was perfect! (I do recommend a dab of plumber’s silicone lube on the rudder post when installing.) A little over a month later I am finally on the water (see picture, video). Returned the second boat to Amazon, and am very, very happy with the boat. Great fun on maiden voyage…highly recommend the boat, but know that there were at least two defective items in inventory and it may take some legwork to get up and running."

Fun

"It's fun! Intermediate to assemble. Nice that the loops were tied!"

Great other than the quality control

"Great other than the quality control"

Great Sailing!

"Luckily, the manufacturer does the most complicated parts of the rigging. I didn't have to alter any of the rigging for sailing. Very impressed with the sailing. Impressed how the jib flips so that you can have both sails taking wind on a down-wind sail."

Ulf (5/5)

Beautiful remote controlled sail boat

"Easily operated remote control sail boat."

Q&A

How may I purchase a replacement main boom for the compass 791-1? After some moderate use, the plastic housing around the boom swivel bushing failed. This part should be metal as it is one of the higher stress points on the boat. If all you do is tack it is fine but a few jibes in any wind will cause fatigue and failure of that part.
